MANGROVE FOREST

Explore the amazing mangrove forest with majestic limestone rock formations and caves in the north and north east Langkawi. While you move along the twists and turns of Kilim river through the maze created by mangrove trees, you can observe land walking fish, vividly colored kingfishers, eagles, makakes and when you are lucky otters or even dolphins.

MANGROVE TREES

Mangrove forest is quite unique eco system with specified flora and fauna. The trees are able to filter the salt water. 12 out of 14 species (worldwide) can befound in Langkawi.

LIMESTONE ROCKS

EAGLES

you can spot here the iconic brahmani kite (who gave Langkawi its name) and the king of the sky the white headed sea eagle.

MAKAKE

Some clans of the notorious Makakes are living in the mangrove forests of Langkawi. They are specialized on living in this habitat… Because of their prefered food they are called crab-monkeys.

CAVES

There are quite some caves you can visit in the Kilim Geopark Forest Park. Interesting features and structures in these caves include stalactites and stalagmites.

BATS

Natural inhabitants of those caves are bats, this small species hanging in big groups from the cave ceiling.

KAYAK TOUR

An eco friendly and silent oportunity to dip into the mangrove forest. But be aware the Kilim river area is so extended that you cannot manage to see all of it by Kayak only.

BOAT TOURS

There is a vast range of operators where you can join a Mangrove Tour. Individual Trips can be arranged too… Ask at The Kasbah for options!

MAGIC SEA WEED

Vegetarian sea food straight outa mangrove. A delicacies what need to be eaten within a few minutes after you take out from water… tastes like caviar.

SNAKES

Quite some venomous and non-venonous snakes can be observed in the mangroves as well as huge monitor lizards.
