The culture and heritage of Langkawi is a hidden gem. You need to dig deep, and you will discover beauty and craft. Many legends ranking about this mystic archipelago and its history.

TRADITIONAL WOODEN HOUSES

All around the island you can find those traditional wooden houses. Rumah kayu playing a big part in local culture and malay identity. Concept and its making is fitted to climate, family structures and lifestyle.

WAU - MALAY KITE

Common fun thing to do for young and old is building and playing with kites… In the main kite season also competitions to be held.

ARTS & CRAFT CENTER

Mainly a place to buy hand crafted souvenirs … but what we recommend: you should visit the small museum in the middle of the complex - at free admission!

KNIFES & OTHER CUTTING TOOLS

The art of a blacksmith is well known in Langkawi. Specialised traditional shapes for all kind of purposes like slaughtering, kitchen work or cutting wood. Grandmaster is Pak Uda.

HERBS & HEALING PLANTS

It's quite a treasure: Langkawi peoples knowledge of herbs and healing plants. Dr. Ghani putting big effort conserving and sharing this knowledge at his Herbal Walk.

LOCAL FOOD

Of course food is a major part if not the most important part of each culture. Night markets and many hawker stalls are offering all the delicious local meals and snacks.

LANGKAWI LEGENDS

Huge part of Langkawis culture are its legends. And those are plenty. At Taman Lagenda (Legend Park in Kuah, nearby the harbour) was a good place to learn about those (unfortunately not in a good condition now).

KOTA MAHSURI

It's mainly a museum about the legendary Mahsuri. Around the tomb is a set up of old wooden houses to give an impression how a village looked like back in the days… Sometimes cultural events are hold here

PERDANA GALLERY

Langkawi remained a quiet backwater until 1986, when the then Prime Minister Mahathir started to transform it into a tourist resort. This complex is dedicated to Mahathir and displays gifts he got from leaders from all around the world during his time as a prime minister.

LAMAN PADI

Laman Padi means rice field. This vast open complex comprises of number of rice fields, galleries and museum where the process and evolution of rice cultivation and harvesting in Langkawi is exhibited.
