EVENTS IN LANGKAWI
Langkawi’s Geopark is noteworthy in its array of impressive rock formations surrounded by ancient jungle, vast caves with stalactites and stalagmites, winding mangrove reveries, sea caves and tunnels, wildlife and waterfalls. Over 90 geo-sites have been found in the region but there are three distinct areas that form the Langkawi Geopark, each with its own unique geological significance.
Deepavali or Diwali is a celebration that spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair. Its celebration includes lighting of lights shining on housetops, outside doors, around temples and other buildings in the communities. The Indians will dress up in new clothes or their best outfit, then gather to a family feast and an exchange of gifts between family members and close friends.
This event will be the 5th Ironman Malaysia in Langkawi to be organized since 2011. About 1,200 athletes will compete in the enduring of 3.8km swimming, 42km running and 182km cycling. Winners to be crowned a world a true Ironman and qualify among 40 athletes for the Ironman World Championship in Kailua Kona, Hawaii. This is among the toughest event on earth!
OCEANMAN represents the first open water swimming events series on international scale and the premium swimming event brand.
The highlights of the festival are the performances from the islands like Fiji, Guam and Papa New Guinea. The festival aims to promote Langkawi through music as an eco-friendly holiday destination and to encourage the local community to keep the island clean and green at all times. Activities focused on protecting the environment will be organized throughout the day. There is a need to convince the local islanders that their survival and prosperity depend upon keeping the island clean and that the island’s development must be sustainable.
